IV Technician Certification
IV technician is a complex and critical job. They work in pharmacies, outpatient clinics, dental and medical practices, and long-term care facilities. The skill set necessary to do this job well requires specific training.
You must have a high school diploma or GED to qualify for this IV certification course. PCT also recommends you have some previous IV experience six months prior to enrolling. That might include working in another healthcare profession, such as EMT, dental hygiene, or nursing.
IV Technician Course
IV or intravenous venipuncture technicians prepare and administer medications that go directly into a patient’s veins through a catheter. IV technician is a specialized field because IV medications have unique handling requirements. The medications are sterile and typically mixed with saline prior to administration.
An IV tech would be responsible for handling the intake and discharge of a patient, preping the patient, inserting the catheter into the vein using a needle, keeping accurate records, and maintaining the stock necessary for the various procedures. They might work closely with a pharmacist for sterile compounding of the medications prior to administration.
Because of the complexity of this healthcare role, certification is necessary to indicate to potential employers that you are a top candidate for the job. The IV technician course provided by Phlebotomy Career Training (PCT) teaches you the skills necessary to be successful in this field, including venipuncture techniques, types of intravenous solutions, recordkeeping, basic anatomy and physiology, and therapeutic communication.
